Occupied with the stress of the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln still managed to pursue his goal of Westward Expansion.  Linking California to the East Coast via the Transcontinental Railroad was his goal. Begun early in his first term and not finished until four years after his assassination, the "Iron Horse," as the Indians nicknamed the steam locomotive, disrupted Native American life on the plains as it progressed through Indian Territory. When the Golden Spike was driven into the rails at Promontory Summit, Utah, in 1869, the journey from coast to coast was reduced from six months to one week.  This marvel is still considered the greatest technological feat of the 19th century.  Two sizes included.  (26 1/2" x 34 1/2" and runner 29" x 13")
